This 31,000 square foot addition to the existing museum
involves a combination of renovation and new construction. The expansion
opened to the public on October 19, 1999. The addition houses galleries,
office space, classrooms, and staff workshop and storage areas. Ann Arbor,
MI.
Since
designing the museum’s expansion that opened in 1999, Cornerstone
Design has continued to work with the museum on major exhibit
projects. The latest and largest of these is an exhibit on the
science of construction, housed in a “building in a building”
constructed within the museum gallery. The enclosure includes
cut-outs showing the various layers of materials in walls and
roofs. Planning and fundraising for the exhibit was done by a
cross-disciplinary team that included architects, developers,
contractors, union representatives, and museum staff.
CDI also provided a house plan for an exhibit within the structure
on reading archi-tectural drawings. Ann Arbor, MI. |
